Global Hotkey Dictation: Speak Into Any App
Configurable system-wide hotkey triggers dictation in the active application. No app switching, no copy-paste, no friction.
The difference between a dictation tool you use and one you abandon is usually friction. SuperSpeech uses a global hotkey — any key combination you choose — that triggers dictation directly into whatever app is focused. No switching to a separate window, no copy-paste, no wondering where your text went.
How global hotkey dictation works
Press your hotkey (default Fn+Space on Mac, Ctrl+Alt+Space on Windows). A minimal recording indicator appears in the corner. Speak. Press the hotkey again to stop. Text appears at your cursor in whatever app is active — Word, Slack, Gmail, Chrome, Terminal, anything.
- Fully configurable: pick any key combination, including function keys
- Push-to-talk or toggle modes
- Works across all apps — no per-app integration needed
- Minimal visual indicator during recording
- Audio cue (optional) confirms start and stop
Push-to-talk vs toggle
Two interaction modes:
- Toggle: press to start, press to stop. Good for long dictation (emails, docs, articles).
- Push-to-talk: hold to record, release to transcribe. Good for short bursts (replies, commands, chat messages).
Works system-wide
Because dictation happens at the OS input level (Accessibility on Mac, SendInput on Windows), it works in every text field: native apps, browsers, IDEs, terminals, Electron apps, and even inside virtual machines.
Paste-in-Place output
SuperSpeech does not use the clipboard by default — it synthesizes keystrokes that appear as typing at your cursor. This preserves your clipboard contents and works in apps that block paste (some banking apps, secure chats). You can also switch to clipboard mode for apps that prefer it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change the hotkey?
Yes. Open Settings → Hotkeys and pick any combination, including function keys, media keys, or custom modifiers. Conflict detection warns if another app uses the same binding.
Does it interfere with other shortcuts?
Only if you bind it to an existing shortcut. Defaults avoid common shortcuts. Pick Fn+Space, right-Option+Space, or a media key for minimal conflicts.
What if I forget to turn it off?
SuperSpeech includes auto-stop after silence (configurable, default 2 seconds). You can also set a maximum recording duration.
Does push-to-talk work for gaming or screen recording?
Yes. Push-to-talk is compatible with any key combination, including game controller buttons on Windows (via input mapping).
Is there a menu bar or tray indicator?
Yes. A small icon in the Mac menu bar or Windows system tray shows status: idle, recording, processing. Click for quick settings access.
